Questions & answers
What is an umbrella company?
An umbrella company acts as an employer for contractors and freelancers working on temporary assignments, usually arranged through a recruitment agency.
At Arkon Pay, we employ you under a contract of employment and take care of all key payroll responsibilities on your behalf. This includes managing PAYE (Pay As You Earn), National Insurance contributions and other employer obligations.
How do I join Arkon Pay and are there setup fees?
Joining Arkon Pay is straightforward and there are no setup charges.
You’ll complete your personal details, agree to the employment contract and provide the required identity and right to work documents, all in just a few minutes through our onboarding process.
You can join us by talking to one of our experienced advisors on 020 3710 0137 who will be happy to help.
Will I be entitled to sick pay?
Yes.
Please contact us straight away to let us know if you are sick and unable to work. You will be able to self-certify for the first seven days and thereafter we will require a doctor’s certificate. Once the required documents are received, we can make the necessary check against the SSP qualifying conditions and if you then qualify for SSP, we will make these payments to you each Friday.
Will I be entitled to maternity, adoption or paternity leave?
Please get in touch with us on 020 3710 0137 as soon as you can so we are able to provide the correct advice.
Am I insured?
Yes.
Arkon Pay automatically provides employers’ liability, public liability and professional indemnity insurance as part of your employment package.
Should I worry about IR35?
No.
As an Arkon Pay employee, all tax and National Insurance are handled through PAYE at employed rates, so IR35 status isn’t something you need to manage separately.
Who is my employer?
You are employed by Arkon Pay and not by your agency.
Agencies remain as the organisations that source your contract work, but Arkon Pay is your employer for payroll and employment purposes.
